Contracting Info

As a music contractor, I've worked with the following companies:

Center Stage Opera
Culver City Chamber Orchestra
Teatrolirico Europa

I've also have contracted musicians for:

Weddings
Private Parties
Special Events
Composers
Independent Artists

My philosophy:

The primary goal of my job is assembling the absolute best performers for a given situation. A combination of craft and art work together to create a working family?  While this matter may seem, at first glance, to be of interest mainly to the musicians, it can become important quite quickly to a presenter/promoter in the event an orchestra doesn’t “get along”. In this case the production, on some level, suffers. So . . . talking to the people involved well in advance is both important and a pleasant experience!

What you can expect from a contractor:

If you’re a client or prospective client here is a list of some things to help you better understand what services I provide as a contractor:

• The relationship between the music contractor and the producer/presenter is one of cooperation and collaboration.
•There are two different elements of a contractor's job.
1- The “craft” element of the contractor’s job is to put together the musicians possessing the right skills for the job at hand.
2- The “art” element of the job is to discern, after all professional skills of a given musician are assessed, which combination of musicians will constitute a workable unit on many levels.
• My fee will vary due to several factors including the location of the event, length of service, number of musicians contracted, and the date and time of the service (for example, performances on certain holidays or holiday periods may require slightly higher fees.)
• If necessary,  transportation and accommodation arrangements are negotiated.

As a producer/presenter you can expect complete transparency and documentation of all transactions. On a week to week (or engagement to engagement) basis you are provided AFM contracts, AFM/EPW (pension) forms and invoices. Payment is generally by direct deposit/wire transfer.  Paperwork can be actual hard copy or signed PDF format.
Musicians are paid accurately and on time. They are presented with statements on engagement, production and yearly intervals. As well, their tax obligations are outlined in a clear and timely fashion.

FAQ

• Does the music contractor work for the producers or the musicians you may ask? The contractor works for the project!
• If I use you as a contractor, can I use someone else for payroll?  Yes, of course you do have that option if you'd rather.
• If I only need one or two musicians, can I still contact you?  Absolutely!
• What kind of artists do you handle
